There are no new wide releases this weekend, several films we previewed moved back a week while others were moved forward, such that some previews may have already been posted for films or included in this week that have already released. It’s a tumultuous time.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks like passable entertainment.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Sorry, I don’t care how well reviewed this is, zombie thrillers are not my thing.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A good and funny film like Zombieland or Shaun of the Dead can be quite enjoyable. This looks too serious and over the top to be that enjoyable.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer is rather dull, which doesn’t make it seem that interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Immigration drama set in 1999 has possibilities but the trailer doesn’t offer too many clues as what they might be.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): There may be some deep issues touched on in the movie about immigrants, but everything is so glossed over in the trailer that it sparks little interest at all.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A film delayed from 2020 looks like it might have been better served by being buried last year.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Toni Collette expands her versatility as a Welsh bartender and horse breeder. Should be worth catching just for her.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am sure this will be a crowd pleaser, but it looks a little too predictable and schmaltzy for my tastes.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer doesn’t set any stakes and I can’t quite wrap my head around its purpose or interest.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Australian murder mysteries are always worth seeing at least once.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): While early reviews are decent, the glum trailer does not really make one want to see this film of a policeman returning to his unloved hometown.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Something about the film feels interesting, but the trailer doesn’t quite excite.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Political thriller looks to be a matter of taste.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A confusing trailer does no favors, but reviews of this dystopian film make it sound worthwhile.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A dull horror film set in an all-girls school with paranormal hauntings. Pass.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Low wattage thriller looks like numerous films of its type that we’ve seen before.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is reasonably effective, but I am not sure that we needed another horror film where teenaged girls conjure up a ghost.
