With only one new wide release, it should conceivably be able to top the charts, but the one typically consistent box office performer that took a huge hit from the pandemic and has yet to rebound effectively is horror films, so whether this can take the top spot from the second week of Mortal Kombat remains to be seen.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Horror films need something magical to make them watchable and the trailer for this one didn’t have that.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Another waste of time minor horror film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Another week, another horror movie. This one does not look terribly good.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Some art films have a purpose and others think they have one. It’s not easy to determine whether this is one of either type.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Existential flight of fancy that might have worked pre-pandemic looks hopelessly out of touch now.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I do not know the director’s other work, but a dull trailer does nothing to pique my interest even though the reviews are good. I really have no idea what this movie is about.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Zhang Yimou is an interesting director and always worth a watch.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Chinese thriller set in the 1930s might be a nice change of pace.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The director has done good work before, so I will give him the benefit of the doubt on this period drama, though the trailer showed an awful lot of random violence.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Glenn Close just doesn’t know how to pick films. This one looks rather dreadful.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Glenn Close reunited with her Albert Nobbs director may be worth a watch, but not another Oscar nod.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Two good leads does not a film make, and I am not sure if there will be more to this than that.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This comedy wants to be a cult hit, but it looks like an utter miss.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Offbeat comedy about lady arm wrestlers looks forced.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am not certain that the world needed another arm wrestling movie, and this one looks impressively dumb.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer wasn’t terribly funny, which is important for a comedy.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Double BAFTA nominee comedy about Syrian asylum seeker in Scotland looks like fun.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The two BAFTA nominations make me think this could be worthwhile, the trailer does its best to negate that feeling.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Yet another film about a humble man fighting a big, scary corporation. Pass.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Christopher Walken in smart-looking biographical drama could be a sleeper.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It boasts a game cast and a tired story. It is hard to get excited over this story of a farmer versus a giant corporation.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): There have been aging assassin films in the past, both comedies and dramas. This drama doesn’t look like it will excel any of them.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This crime drama looks OK, but not like another awards grabber for double Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A game cast with an enigmatic lead gives some hope that this thriller will be worthwhile.
