Wesley Lovell: Unless The Revenant sweeps, I see little likelihood of it winning this category. As this will be one of the earliest ones presented (most likely), keep an eye on it. Mad Max: Fury Road should win and if it doesn’t, then the game is over everywhere for just about everyone.
Peter J. Patrick: Every once in a while there’s a winner out of the blue that no one expects. The 100-Year-Old Man would be such a winner.
Tripp Burton: The 100-Year-Old Man is the most impressive of these nominations, and the kind of pleasant surprise this branch sometimes gives us, but it is outpaced in the race greatly by the two tech monsters of the Oscar season. My guess is that the dirt of Mad Max triumphs the dirt of The Revenant, especially after doing well at the Makeup guild this weekend.
Thomas La Tourrette: This would seem like a slam dunk for Mad Max: Fury Road, but with The Revenant sweeping through the tech guild awards, nothing is certain. I still think that Mad Max will win, if just for the sheer amount of makeup that was used for the large cast. Revenant’s work was mostly for the bear wounds on Leonardo DiCaprio, and, while that was very good, it just does not have the volume of work that Mad Max does. The humorous Swedish film, The 100-Year-Old Man…, will not factor into the equation. Mad Max should win, but it will be a much closer race than would have been predicted even one month ago.
