One of the foremost awards in Europe, the European Film Awards are not a precursor we’ve covered previously as their influence was minimal. However, in order to expand to cover more types of industry awards, we’re presenting a wider variety of group nominations. The European Film Awards have different eligibility requirements, which explains why 2018 Oscar winner The Favourite is on the list while 2019 Oscar contenders Pain and Glory and Les Misรฉrables are included here as well as films that may not even be Oscar eligible until 2020. While the website breaks out screenwriter by individual, we’ve combined them into a single film nomination here. That allows for five films, two we’ve already mentioned (Favourite and Pain and Glory), to lead the race with four nominations a piece. The other three films are An Officer and a Spy, Portrait of a Lady on Fire, and The Traitor.
