As the precursor awards continue unabated until Oscar night, I’m going to be providing a weekly update highlighting the films that have won and lost momentum through the precursor awards (and in some cases other outside influences).

The Golden Globe Awards dominate this past week of precursor revelations giving 1917 a huge boost while deflating Netflix’s balloon.

But, before we get into this week’s winners and losers, let’s take a look at what’s coming up this week:

Big Winners

1917 seems to have peaked at the right moment as it’s starting to pull ahead of some of the once-juggernaut titles like The Irishman. Its big wins at the Golden Globes gave it the best boost it could imagine and a solid box office run will further help.
Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood continues to chug right along with three wins at the Golden Globes on Sunday. Brad Pitt has been cemented as a Supporting Actor frontrunner.

Big Losers

The Irishman went home empty-handed on Sunday night at the Golden Globe Awards. This, along with the film’s general lackluster performance at the precursors in recent weeks, suggest the film will limp across the finish line, possibly without a single Oscar to its name.
Marriage Story may have landed a Supporting Actress Golden Globe for Laura Dern, but it has been struggling to keep above water in recent weeks. The film still looks to earn several Oscar nominations, but Dern might be the film’s best opportunity. That said, Adam Driver is still in the race for Best Actor as he’s one of the more consistent winners in Marriage Story‘s stable.
