Here’s where Frozen II picks up its third weekend atop the box office as the two new wide releases don’t look like they’ll be more than lackluster performers. The Aeronauts is the kind of movie that might have done well twenty or thirty years ago, but which won’t draw as much interest as the studio is hoping by putting it into wide release instead of platforming it. Playmobil: The Movie on the other hand, is the kind of film that should automatically do well, since it’s animated, but I highly doubt that will happen since the film hasn’t gotten nearly as much press as it should and it looks an attempt to hone in on the Lego Movie game without the underlying power property to back it up. Ultimately, Playmobil will probably end up in second place, but it doesn’t have a prayer of topping Frozen II.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Two actors I feel at odds about in a film that looks both interesting and dull simultaneously.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): The real 1960s flights depicted in the film involved two men, how replacing one of them with a woman makes sense I don’t know.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Originally I thought this might be an Oscar contender, but it looks to get lost in the mix. Still it looks like a fun adventure movie.

Wesley Lovell (WL): This looks like a terrible attempt at replicating the success of The Lego Movie with nary the creative energy or quality of animation to support it.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks kind of dopey, even for little kids.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks to be a quite inferior Lego Movie knock-off without any of the redeeming features of that movie series.

Wesley Lovell (WL): The premise is laudable, but the trailer doesn’t make it look that interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Apple TV movie being given a limited theatrical run doesn’t look all that special.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This should be an interesting film, but the trailer makes it look very pedestrian, with everyone being able to figure out the plot easily.

Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks dreadful. Why is Steven Seagal still making movies?

Wesley Lovell (WL): There’s something odd about the film that makes it seem potentially compelling, but also very uninteresting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Might be inereseting if there’s anything of substance behind the unique premise.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Other films have done the imaginary friend coming back to life stories before. This looks like a relatively interesting take, though it starts getting a little too slasher film for me by the end.
