The Fast & Furious franchise has proven formiddable at the box office, which could give Hobbs & Shaw, a spin-off franchise, a straight track to the top of the box office. With Lion King fading further in its third week, Hobbs & Shaw should have no problem taking the top spot, but whether it can reach as high as the main series remains to be seen.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I have yet to see one of the Fast & Furious films and nothing about this makes me want to start here.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Since I’ve avoided seeing all of the Fast & Furious films, I feel no need to see this film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The Fast and the Furious films never aimed to be high art, but this one feels a step below the others in making one want to attend.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Terrible animation, terrible writing, and a terrible premise make it all look soโ€ฆterrible.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Historical sacrilege at its worst!
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks like an atrociously bad movie, which is a pity as a movie about the young Da Vinci might have been good.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The cast gives one hope, but the trailer is imperfect and hard to appreciate.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Sundance hit looks like a solid thriller with strong acting opportunities for its four main players.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am not sure about this film, the concept sounds really intriguing and it has a strong cast, but the trailer just did not excite me that way it meant to. I do think and hope it will be good.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A fascinating concept from a strong director could be worth a look.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Another festival hit with strong atmosphere from the writer-director of The Babadook.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is interesting but no more, whereas the reviews make it sound like a vivid, brutal and difficult film to watch, which did not totally come across in the trailer.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer doesn’t do much to make this film look engaging.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): It might be good, but this Mafia in Naples film looks too derivative to be anything special.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It sounds like a teenage version of Goodfellas, and that does not really appeal to me.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I have a hard time remember what the film is about and that forgetfulness is telling.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): A film about a religious cult centered around snakes is not something I’m eager to see.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The reviews make it sound somewhat intriguing, but the meandering trailer sure dispels a lot of interest in the film.
