Review: (#1) Like unto something that dominated cinema during the silent era, this design reminisces for a halcyon day in film history and that might just entice the right type of audience for this film, but not a very big one.

(#2) The lighthouse itself is a focal point between these two characters as the trailer suggests, but that doesn’t make the design interesting.

Trailer Rating: B+ / B-

Review: (#1) Atmospheric in ways that we haven’t seen much since the 1960s, this film looks like it was made by a Swedish master of cinema like Ingmar Bergman. While there isn’t a lot of plot here, the style is interesting enough to entice film history aficionados to the theater, but unlikely anyone else.

(#2) Adding the horror score to the trailer leads to questions about how compelling or inventive the narrative actually is and whether or not it will compare favorably with the era it’s imitating.

Oscar Prospects:

While it’s doubtful the film will be very appealing to Academy voters, critics could bolster its chances, especially for Willem Dafoe.
