From IMDb: “Seven black friends who go away for the weekend only to find themselves trapped in a cabin with a killer who has a vendetta. Will their street smarts and knowledge of horror movies help them stay alive? Probably not.”

Poster Rating: C / C+ (9)

Review: (#1) The blood spatters are sophomoric. The red tinge at the top doesn’t fit, the white and red lettering is excessive, and the character array isn’t rudimentary.

(#2-#10) Adding A tagline and a figure to the same backdrop is not effective character poster creation. While it does add some humor to the effort, they aren’t interesting enough to own.

Trailer Rating: B- / C+

Review: (#1) The attempt to create a horror spoof with an entirely black cast ultimately feels a bit forced. The humor in the trailer is all low-hanging fruit and while there are some elements that make it look intriguing, there aren’t enough to make it look like the second-coming.

(#2) At what point do you veer from compelling horror comedy narrative into cheap knock-off territory? This trailer edges dangerously close to that, mostly because of its use of test screening reaction shots. A few might have worked, but it’s overused and that makes you wonder whether they are trying to sell the film or how it makes you feel and that’s not always a winning proposition.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
