Review: (#1) A nice, subtle design that lacks creative detail, but sets audience expectations rather well. (#2) The layout is frustrating, creating an image that feels static, but uninteresting. The balance is off and that makes it all the more dull.

(#3-#17) This is a solid, but uninspired series of character posters. There’s not enough in the way of background details or creative flourishes, but they evoke the film satisfactorily.

Trailer Rating: C+ / B+

Review: (#1) If you’re familiar with the Disney animated feature Peter Pan, nothing in this trailer looks fresh. While the Disney machine keeps trying to revive animated features of its past into popular live action features, the effort displayed here looks forced and that’s not going to help it appeal to existing fans of the material.

(#2) The magic of the story and the original animated production are such that it needs to appropriately infuse the trailer with a sense of wonderment and adventurous spirit with enough visual flourishes to make it broadly appealing. The marketing team has done a solid job with this cut and it will certainly more broadly appeal than a lot of other recent animated-to-live action efforts from Disney.

Oscar Prospects:

A Visual Effects nomination wouldn’t be unexpected.
