Poster Rating: B+

Review: Strangely, the clutter only accentuates the film’s childlike nature. It doesn’t use the traditional bright colors to bring the audience into its fold, settling for cooler colors that make the design seem all the more interesting.

Trailer Rating: C+

Review: While the film is certainly magical, it’s execution may not be. Clearly positioned for a family thanksgiving audience, Mr. Magorium looks more like the Robin Williams bomb Toys than it does to anything else. It will definitely appeal to kids and Dustin Hoffman is often more funny than Williams, but I can’t help but sense a sappy, saccharine-drenched pic.

Oscar Prospects:

This film won’t fare as well with Oscar as Toys did. There isn’t the sense of other-worldliness to Mr. Magorium and thus will probably be considered but forgotten for art direction, ignored for costume design and also-ran for Visual Effects.
