As the precursor awards continue unabated until Oscar night, I’m going to be providing a weekly update highlighting the films that have won and lost momentum through the precursor awards (and in some cases other outside influences).

The critics nominations and awards are slowly trickling to a close as the year ends with only a few more set for January and then we’ll be into the guild nominations and finally the Oscar nominations in late January.

But, before we get into this week’s winners and losers, let’s take a look at what’s coming up this week:

Week 5 (TUE-MON)

Tuesday, Dec. 27 – Austin Critics (Nominations) (Unconfirmed)
Friday, Dec. 30 – Columbus Critics (Awards) (Unconfirmed)
Friday, Dec. 30 – Houston Critics (Awards) (Unconfirmed)
Friday, Dec. 30 – Casting Society (Nominations) (Unconfirmed)

Big Winners

Everything Everywhere All at Once continues to sweep up every award that isn’t nailed down, making its case for being the film to beat at the Oscars…if it weren’t for the sex toys.
Colin Farrell has been running roughshod over this year’s Best Actor race, easily picking up the most awards.
Brendan Fraser has been nabbing anything Farrell hasn’t secured, which means it’s a tight race. Will the comeback story win out?

Big Losers

The Banshees of Inisherin has been struggling to secure awards and it seemed like the Slayer of Googly Eyes, but it’s not picking up nearly enough traction to make a race of it.
Michelle Williams may regret having gone lead because her name isn’t earning the attention it would have in support where she was more likely to win.
Till may have come on strong with its initial reviews, but it’s not been winning the kinds of prizes needed to make a go of many nominations outside of Danielle Deadwyler in Best Actress who isn’t even doing that well herself.
