To introduce you to the upcoming films, there will be two preview articles every month and this introduction every four months. The Season Preview article will focus on one of three seasons Spring Season (January through April), Blockbuster Season (May through August) and Oscar Season (September through December). In these introductory articles, I will give you the current release schedule for the specified season, which may change as the release dates get closer.

As our second Oscar season of the Pandemic Era begins, we’re looking for films to break out of the pandemic funk. Films that would have easily topped $100 million in years’ past have fallen short of that. Part of that is Disney’s hamfisted attempt to re-start vertical integration with its day-and-date releases on Disney Plus, part of it is a pandemic still raging and a public split between those who refuse to vaccinate and those who have with new strains causing added pain for cinemas. An impressive array of potential blockbusters and Oscar fare is on the offing and while it would be nice to return to pre-pandemic numbers, we might just be another year off of that.
