(Updated 3/20/10, 8:30a: corrected tribute links)After a lot of research and collation, I’ve finally gotten together the Tributes for January, February and the first half of March of 2010.
Jean Simmons (pictured at right), 81, was the most Oscar recognized of the bunch, but she is only one of the 76 important people listed herein.
Some were lost too soon: Justin Mentell of Boston Legal died in a car crash at 27; garage rocker Jay Reatard, aged 29, died of a drug overdose; stage actress Lindsay Thomas lost her battle with cancer at age 31; ’80s teen heartthrob Corey Haim died at 38, his case is still being investigated; Fog of War editor Karen Schmeer was struck down at age 39 by a drugstore robbery getaway car.
Others led long, productive lives: screenwriter and playwright Aleen Leslie died at 101; Jack Kerness, art director who worked with Hitchcock and Kubrick died of natural causes at 98; former FCC member and Detroit broadcaster James Quello died at 95; Frances Reid, aged 95, was matriarch Alice Horton on the long-running daytime serial Days of Our Lives from the series beginning in 1965 right up until she died this year; and Emmy-nominated writer Aaron Ruben was 95 at the time of his death to pneumonia.
Although this is just a small portion of the names listed below, none of them will be easily replaced and we were all enriched by their accomplishments. May the rest in peace.
