Rating: A
Commentary: This is precisely where the film starts out, a journey from the front door of a quaint little residence in The Shire. The image is colorful, engaging and easily reminds the audience why they fell in love with Tolkien’s world in the first place.
Rating: A-
Commentary: Any film with this much anticipation leading up to its release is bound to feel a bit like a let down; however, Jackson and company do a fantastic job minimizing that disappointment. This tense and engaging trailer gives viewers a chance to revisit the land of Middle-Earth, experience a new plot and adventure and features a wonderful, mournful dirge as its centerpiece.

Oscar Chances: Returning to Tolkien’s world will no doubt lead the film towards further Oscar consideration. Nominations would be expected for Best Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Original Score, Original Song, Editing, Cinematography, Art Direction, Costume Design, Makeup, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Visual Effects. And I wouldn’t be shocked if it won prizes in at least 6 of them.
