A bigger update today with four new trailers (Cars 2, Made in Dagenham, Meskada and Scream 4) and three new posters (Life As We Know It, Skyline and The Warrior’s Way)
MADE IN DAGENHAM
Plot Summary: In a small all-woman sewing factory, a British woman starts a movement in the country pushing for equal pay. Release Date: November 19, 2010 |
||

Poster |

Rating: B Commentary: Despite the expected comparisons to Norma Rae, the film doesn’t look like an abject bore and Sally Hawkins does look quite good. They say Miranda Richardson’s quite good (and it’s also reference by a critic note in the trailer), but you don’t really get that sense from this trailer. |
Rating: C Commentary: Nothing really spectacular or exceptional here. A fairly transparent, simplistic approach to poster design. |
|
Trailer Link: Apple Trailers Oscar Chances: Miranda Richardson is getting some buzz, the first she’s gotten in many years, so she could be a nomination contender, but a win is a big question mark. And, since it looks a bit like Norma Rae, several other nominations could follow if it really picks up steam with the critics. Unfortunately for Sally Hawkins the Lead Actress field is a much tougher nut to crack this year and she’s likely to be left out. |
SCREAM 4
Plot Summary: As the tagline says “New Decade, New Rules” as the fourth film in the popular Scream franchise gives us new rules to live by updated to modern horror memes. Release Date: April 15, 2011 |
||

Poster |
|
Rating: B- Commentary: It’s a somewhat generic trailer and the humor isn’t terribly great, but you know what you’re going to get from the opening scene and there’s nothing to dissuade the rabid fanbase of the franchise from turning out for this installment. |
Rating: None Commentary: I don’t review placeholders. |

CARS 2
Plot Summary: The sequel to Pixar’s automotive hit takes Mater and Lightning McQueen across the pond and embroils them in international espionage. Release Date: June 24, 2011 |
||
Trailer |
Poster |
|
Rating: C+ Commentary: You want it to be more exciting than that, especially considering all the great previews that have crept up in the past, but this looks more like a lame reject from the Fox Animation vaults than one from a Pixar classic-in-the-making. |
Rating: None Commentary: I don’t review placeholders. |
|
Trailer Link: Yahoo Movies Trailers Oscar Chances: It’s Pixar, so you have to consider it a contender for Animated Feature, but the first film lost to Happy Feet and I can’t see the Academy really digging this sequel the way they did with the two sequels to Toy Story. |
MESKADA
Plot Summary: The sheriff of an affluent town must track down the murderer of a young boy that leads him back to his home town hit hard by economic woes brought on by the residents of the city in which he works. Release Date: December 3, 2010 |
||
Trailer |
Poster |
|
Rating: C Commentary: A murder mystery blended with an economic hardship story? It seems a bit of a stretch and the trailer does do a very good job giving us an idea what the purpose of the blended connection is. It almost looks like two different movies. |
Rating: C Commentary: It’s a fairly generic poster and unnecessarily gives Kellan Lutz the largest image even though this isn’t his film. It’s Nick Stahl’s and his image is considerably smaller. |

SKYLINE, poster #2
Plot Summary: After sending a message into deep space, earth is beset by an alien race bent on collecting them for their own nefarious purposes. Release Date: November 12, 2010 |
||

Previous Preview: Skyline |
Rating: B- Commentary: Nice colors, but that’s what I’ve come to expect after the first trailer. This uses one scene from the trailer to try to show audiences that there really are actual people in the movie, but if you’ve seen the trailer, you already know. |

LIFE AS WE KNOW IT, poster #2
Plot Summary: After their friends die unexpectedly, two disparate individuals are brought together to raise their child despite their animosity towards one another. Release Date: October 8, 2010 |
||

Previous Preview: Life As We Know It |
Rating: C+ Commentary: What a film already in theaters needs with a new poster is an interesting question. And what is presented somewhat answers it, showing us several positive responses from critics (despite a general drubbing by them) hoping to draw people to the theater. The scene itself works better than the critic notices, but it’s still a seemingly pointless endeavor. |

THE WARRIOR’S WAY, poster #2
Plot Summary: Refusing an order to kill the last surviving member of a clan, an assassin finds himself hiding out in a small, Old West town where he hopes he won’t be followed, but knows he will. Release Date: December 3, 2010 |
||

Previous Preview: The Warrior’s Way |
Rating: C Commentary: Taking the first poster and pushing the edges out to reveal more of the scene does little to energize a lackluster original. |
