Tonight, we’ve got three new trailers and two new posters. The new trailers are for Kung Fu Panda 2, No Strings Attached and White Material. The posters are for African Cats and Rio.
KUNG FU PANDA 2
Plot Summary: Everyone’s favorite food-loving kung fu-fighting panda returns in his second big screen feature. Release Date: May 26, 2011 |

Rating: B- Commentary: The trailer feels a bit disjointed, suggesting one thing then delivering another and ending with something completely different. Though, the staring contest idea and execution saves the trailer from utter blandness. |
Rating: C Commentary: An entire letter grade deduction for lame puns. Ska-two-oosh is seriously idiotic. Otherwise, it should be a sufficient advertising element. |
|
Trailer Link: Yahoo Movies Trailers Oscar Chances: The original film was a nominee and if the quality of this second film is good enough, it should be a shoe-in for a nomination, but a win will depend entirely on how Cars 2 works out or if there’s another feature worth trumping them all. |
WHITE MATERIAL
Plot Summary: A coffee plantation owner in an unnamed African country puts her family at risk to harvest her last crop as rebellion and revolution rages around her. Release Date: February 19, 2010 |
||

Poster |
|
Rating: B- Commentary: This looks like a more gritty version of Indochine. Isabelle Huppert and Catherine Deneuve are both terrific French actresses, so it could be good, but the trailer doesn’t make the film look all that involving. |
Rating: C+ Commentary: I know that I’ve heaped criticism on films for evoking their titular colors and sometimes even ridiculed them for not using them, but this poster is significantly bland despite using the color white mostly effectively. |
|
Trailer Link: Yahoo Movies Trailers Oscar Chances: It was not submitted for consideration by the Academy for Foreign Language film, so it’s pretty much out of the running for anything else. |
NO STRINGS ATTACHED
Plot Summary: They started out wanting nothing more than sex, but a pair of friends soon discover they feel something deeper. Release Date: January 21, 2011 |
||

Rating: C- Commentary: The hallmarks of a generic, uninteresting romantic comedy. Ashton Kutcher had his one big screen success (Valentine’s Day) and now he seems to be grasping at straws. |
Rating: None Commentary: I don’t review placeholders. |

AFRICAN CATS, poster
Plot Summary: DisneyNature’s third Earth Day documentary focuses on two families of Savannah felines, one leopard and one lion, as the fight for their survival. Release Date: April 22, 2011 |

Previous Preview: African Cats |
Rating: B Commentary: Sometimes, the best way to convey your subject is to go big and beautiful and that’s what the main lion on this page is. Add in the other elements and you have a poster that’s sure to encourage some extra attendance. |

RIO, poster #2
Plot Summary: Raised in the wilds of small-town Minnesota, a nerdy macaw finds himself out of his element when he finds himself lost in Rio. Release Date: April 8, 2011 |

Previous Preview: Rio |
Rating: C Commentary: A rather lame tagline suggests a rather lame movie in the works. And I really hope this isn’t going to be a series of avian puns because I don’t think I could stand that. |
