Two more trailers tonight. The first is for an indie relationship drama called The Freebie. The second is for a semi-indie family drama called Legendary. Then, there are four new posters tonight, a triptych for Never Let Me Go and one for Robert De Niro/Edward Norton starrer Stone.

THE FREEBIE

Plot Summary: Trying to cope with his life as a married man, Darren hopes to convince his wife Annie to permit him to have an extra-marital affair to certify his love for her.
Release Date: August 27, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Rating: C+
Commentary: It reminds me strongly of Humpday, which wasn’t a bad movie, but definitely appealed to the intellectual crowd moreso than general modern audiences. Which is fine and this trailer gives exactly that impression, but shouldn’t you want some cross-over appeal?
Rating: None
Commentary: None Available.

Oscar Chances: None.

LEGENDARY

Plot Summary: A high school student wants to make his way into Greco Roman wrestling and accomplish something for himself and turns to his disinterested, troubled older brother for help.
Release Date: September 10, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Rating: C-
Commentary: What does it say for your movie when you don’t put your big name star at the top of the bill and don’t even mention the actual lead of the film. Obviously trying to make this seem like a serious film and not a dud, they have put Patricia Clarkson front-and-center in the trailer, but the surrounding images and actors don’t really support that concept.
Rating: C-
Commentary: Once again, the young lead of the film gets short shrift, not even rating his own big picture at the top of the poster and having to settle for a much smaller one in the bottom. Front load your poster all you want, but there is nothing visually distinctive about this one.

Oscar Chances: None.

NEVER LET ME GO, posters #2, #3 and #4

See Below Plot Summary: Three English school children grow into adults and find feelings of love emerging despite a grim reality that waits ahead for them.
Release Date: October 1, 2010

Never Let Me Go
Rating: C
Commentary: Aside from the triptych style, there isnt much exemplary about these posters. The designs are consistent and the images decently selected, but despite being a bold color choice, they don’t look all that great.

STONE, poster

Plot Summary: A convict tries everything he can try to convince his case worker that he deserves to be paroled while working a plan with his wife to get the case worker caught in a situation that will give them leverage only to discover his wife may be preparing a double-cross.
Release Date: October 8, 2010

Stone
Rating: D
Commentary: Let’s put our stars in the bold title of the movie…it’s never been done before. Not only has it been done, but it’s been done more interestingly.
