Three new trailers and a new poster today. The trailers are for Oscar winner Danny Boyle’s new film 127 Hours, the second trailer for the Drew Barrymore/Justin Long distance relationship seriocomedy Going the Distance and teen slumber party dare flick Triple Dog. The new poster is for Valerie Plame feature Fair Game.

127 HOURS

Plot Summary: Trapped in a crevasse in the Grand Canyon, a young outdoorsman tries to cope with his situation and hope for survival.
Release Date: November 5, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Rating: C+
Commentary: I’m of two minds with this trailer. The first is that I like how it sets up the bulk of the film’s premise. I don’t like how the trailer attempts to be clever and visually stunning. It suggests an attempt to distract the viewer from a lack of plot, which I doubt there will be, but audiences may not be able to tell the difference.
Rating: None
Commentary: I don’t review placeholders.

Oscar Chances: A lot depends on how good the film is. A lot of people are putting faith in Danny Boyle now that his Slumdog Millionaire has put him on the Oscar map. However, we must remember that despite how well respected he was prior to Slumdog, his films weren’t very Oscar friendly.

GOING THE DISTANCE, trailer #2

Plot Summary: Meeting six weeks before her departure for San Francisco, two New Yorkers become incomparably close but must resolve all the issues of a long-distance relationship.
Release Date: September 3, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Rating: C
Commentary: Sometimes, more isn’t better. The structure of this trailer just makes the film feel hopelessly unoriginal. The humor’s either not that funny or absent altogether. Other than Drew Barrymore, there’s not a big reason to see this one.

TRIPLE DOG

Plot Summary: At a teenage slumber party, a group of young girls decide to play a game of truth-or-dare, without the truth.
Release Date: September 10, 2010

Trailer

Poster

Rating: D+
Commentary: I really fail to see the point. Is this a horror film or just a girls-being-girls movie? Is it supposed to have a message? The trailer plays like a horror film, but nothing in it really suggests a traditional Slumber Party Massacre style event. I sense a lot of disappointment.
Rating: D+
Commentary: Bad girl vs. good girls. That’s what the posture and positioning suggests, yet the trailer doesn’t seem to focus on that very much. Mix in the poor choice of backgrounds and colors and you have a poster as unexceptional as the trailer.

Oscar Chances: None.

FAIR GAME, poster

Plot Summary: Based on the true story of the revelation of undercover CIA agent Valerie Plame’s identity to the press in retaliation for her husband’s revelation of malfeasance at the White House.
Release Date: November 5, 2010

Rating: C
Commentary: Not a fan of the color scheme, nor the layout. If you look at the apple website, it’s more colorful and tasteful, this poster is just bland.
