Wesley Lovell: Back in December, we were thinking that Decision to Leave had this in the bag. Yet, it wasn’t nominated and now we’re thinking that All Quiet on the Western Front is the frontrunner and that narrative seems to have stuck. Of course anything could win as upsets happen in this category with some frequency but right now All Quiet leads.
Peter J. Patrick: All Quiet on the western Front is such a runaway favorite that it’s almost superfluous to pick a runner-up but I’m going to go with the Belgian entry, Close.
Tripp Burton: With all those nominations, and a Best Picture nomination, I donโt see any way that All Quiet on the Western Front possibly loses here.
Thomas La Tourrette: Especially after dominating the BAFTAs, I cannot imagine anything but All Quiet on the Western Front winning this award. However, I do remember thinking the same thing about Amelie a few years back and was amazed when it did not win, and it had swept most of the precursor awards. The non-nominated RRR and Decision to Leave have each won by far more awards, but cannot win the Oscar. Before last night, EO had actually won more precursors than All Quiet, but I think it stands little chance of winning. Argentina, 1985 was a surprise winner of the Golden Globe but also seems unlikely to win. It would be a major upset if anything but All Quiet on the Western Front wins this Oscar.
