Welcome to The Morning After, where I share with you what movies I’ve seen over the past week. Below, you will find short reviews of those movies along with a star rating. Full length reviews may come at a later date.
So, here is what I watched this past week:
Kung Fu Panda 3
There are few great visual joys in life than the Kung Fu Panda series. Gorgeously crafted and employing numerous animation and artistic styles, Kung Fu Panda 3 is every bit as beautiful as its predecessors.
The third film in the franchise finds Po the unwitting recipient of a visit from his father. While their reunion promises to bring excitement to Po’s life, an evil force has emerged from the spirit realm where it has successfully captured the Chi forces of all the masters there and wants to destroy all the ones in the mortal realm as well, including Po. Po must learn to be a teacher and a Chi master in short order or face the destruction of all he holds dear.
Jennifer Yuh Nelson is a terrific caretaker for this franchise, deftly juggling the myriad artists who bring this mesmerizing saga to life. While the story is as uncomplicated as it’s always been, there are joys and sorrows aplenty and while you know precisely where things are going and likely how they’ll resolve, the fun is watching the unparalleled artistic splendor unfold before your eyes.
