Each film will have its own separate review posting and this article will bear links to each individual movie review. The only review content that won’t merit it’s own page will be television series reviews, which will continue to be highlighted in this article.
As you can tell, I did not get a lot watched this weekend. It was quite busy, but here’s what I’ve been through.
So, here is what I watched this weekend:
The Straight Story
Apart from the rather poignant, no words need be spoken conclusion, the film felt a bit dry. And for David Lynch that’s quite an accomplishment. Still, it had a lot of nice insights into human nature, the discrepancy between generations and the outlook one old man has on life and its myriad complications. The plot itself is a bit obscure and definitely outside Lynch’s wheelhouse, but he handles it effectively. It’s not the kind of film you want to revisit repeatedly, but it’s a pleasant little yarn.
Weeds, Season 6 (Episodes 1-9)
Half way through season 5, I began wondering if this show was on its downward spiral. The Esteban storyline felt like a “Jump the Shark” moment. And by the end, I felt certain the next season, quality lacking, might end up its last. It’s amazing what a difference a season makes. Season 6, so far, has been a creative revolution for the show. While it’s not as absurd as it has been in the past, the show got back to its dark humor roots and kept me entertained. The characters have finally gotten out of their shallow self-delusion and back into the semi-confident acerbic qualities that made the show so engaging to start. Here’s hoping the final 4 episodes are as good and that the season finishes on a high note.
