Every week, I get several press releases, screening invitations and other notifications from a handful of studio contacts. While I won’t be sharing any information regarding my screening invites, some of the press releases might be of interest to my readers, so I thought I’d start sharing them in toto with all of you. These could include new image galleries for various films or important updates to upcoming releases from various smaller studios and art house production companies.

Press Release: Freestyle Releasing Claims U.S. Rights to ‘Funeral Kings’

Freestyle Releasing Crowns the โ€˜FUNERAL KINGSโ€™ by Taking All U.S. Rights to Irreverent Coming-of-Age Comedy

Critically Acclaimed Indie picked up out of SXSW

Los Angeles, CA (September 7, 2012) โ€“ Freestyle Releasing announced today that they have acquired all U.S. rights to FUNERAL KINGS, the charming, critically acclaimed comedy that was written, produced and directed by brothers Kevin McManus and Matthew McManus. The film was executive produced by Andrew van den Houten (โ€˜โ€™The Woman,โ€ โ€œIn the Familyโ€) and stars Dylan Hartigan (โ€œThe Black Donnellysโ€), Alex Maizus, Jordan Puzzo, and Charles Odei (โ€œThe Good Wifeโ€). Michaela McManus (โ€œThe Vampire Diariesโ€), Michael Delaney (โ€œThe Other Guysโ€), and Kevin Corrigan (โ€œSuperbadโ€) round out the cast. FUNERAL KINGS debuted as an official selection at this yearโ€™s SXSW Film Festival and is slated for a fall release.

It’s always a good day for a funeral at St. Mark’s Middle School in Rhode Island. Andy and Charlie, two altar boys, don’t just get to miss class anytime a parishioner kicks the bucket, they cut out early and play hooky as soon as the service is over. Eventually their irreverent personalities will put them in a situation that is too big for them to handle.

The deal for the U.S. rights was negotiated by Freestyle Releasingโ€™s Co-President Susan Jackson and Andrew van den Houten, President of Moderncinรฉ.

โ€œKevin and Matthew McManus are talented new filmmakers who bring a fresh humor to the adventures of these neโ€™er-do-well New England Altar boys. We absolutely love the film and canโ€™t wait to bring it to audiences,โ€ said Jackson.

โ€œFuneral Kings was an audience and critics hit at SXSW and Fantasia and we are delighted to secure U.S. distribution with Freestyle for this very funny film,โ€ said Andrew van den Houten.
