Interesting Serbian take on Crime and Punishment relies a bit too much on coincidence but is a nevertheless absorbing modern film noir.

I just finished this one up on my Netflix Instant and it was an interesting film. A lot of the elements were fairly conventional, but for a split second, the ending had a note of originality, then the very final scene just felt forced and unnecessary.
Regardless of my misgivings about the way it ended, I think it’s a compelling look at the lengths desperation can drive a man. Near the end of the film, two characters discuss briefly how they couldn’t imagine killing a man. One of them had. The film definitely exists on a less-is-more plane that a lot of American films seem to avoid. Long, uncomfortable silences and simple glances can convey just as much, if not more, than a bit of corny dialogue.
