This one came in a couple of nights ago, but other issues put posting this out of my mind.
The Act of Killing
Director: Joshua Oppenheimer, Christine Cynn, Anonymous
Premise: From IMDb: “A documentary that challenges former Indonesian death squad leaders to reenact their real-life mass-killings in whichever cinematic genres they wish, including classic Hollywood crime scenarios and lavish musical numbers.”
Oscar Chances: Strong: The critics love it, but is the novel approach to documentary storytelling employed going to appeal to enough members of the Documentary Feature branch to give it a slot on the shortlist? The sudden influx of new members in that branch may be a good indication that it will make it that far and it may even get a nomination.
Rotten Tomatoes:
97% (106 critics {8.8 average rating}; as of 11/1/13)
Metacritic:
89 out of 100 (30 critics; as of 11/1/13)
