Tonight, I received the promotional screener for How to Train Your Dragon. Note the packaging is rather fancy and Academy members, unless they are also members of other guilds/groups who get screeners, won’t be getting this. Academy rules strictly prohibit anything but generic packaging. It’s also one of the neatest packages I’ve received in the last 12 years.

How to Train Your Dragon

Genre: Animation, Drama, Comedy

Voices: Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, TJ Miller, Kristen Wiig

Premise: In a small Viking village, a social outcast discovers a wounded baby dragon in a glade and tends to its injury becoming friends in the process. When danger mounts and the village’s safety is threatened, the two team up to try to save it.

Rating: (PG) for sequences of intense action and some scary images, and brief mild language.

Oscar Chances: It is one of two films virtually guaranteed a berth in the Best Animated Feature category. As for any other categories? Its chances are muted by competitor Toy Story 3 which, if any animated film does, will earn those other nods.
