A second offering from Universal.
Furious 7
Stars: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges, Dwayne Johnson, Lucas Black, Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Gal Gadot, John Brotherton, Luke Evans, Tony Jaa, Djimon Hounsou, Noel Gugliemi, Ali Fazal, Sung Kang, Ronda Rousey, Miller Kimsey, Charlie Kimsey, Eden Estrella
Director: James Wan
Premise: From IMDb: “Deckard Shaw seeks revenge against Dominic Toretto and his family for his comatose brother.”
Oscar Chances: Poor: The film was incredibly popular with audiences and received decent reviews. However, the Academy has never gone out of its way to recognize franchises, especially ones that are genre heavy. The only franchise that has ever been nominated for Best Picture was The Lord of the Rings and even its first film got a nomination in Best Picture. The Hobbit films did not. It’s possible the film could get nominated in Best Original Song or in a tech category, but that would be the limitation of its Oscar appeal.
