Spreading their awards across the gambit, Martin Scorsese’s Hugo was named best film by the National Board of Review. Scorsese was also chosen as Best Director. The Descendants managed three nominations including Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay. No one really loses here, but Hugo, Shailene Woodley and Tilda Swinton get strong boosts.
