Televised Awards Season begins now. For now until Oscar night, a new televised precursor will air. That said, we’ve got this one precursor starting everything off with a bang. Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood was the dominant film with three awards, but it was 1917 that shocked with a win for Best Drama and Best Director. Peaking at the right time, the World War I epic is starting a push towards the Oscars that might become unstoppable. The Irishman went home empty-handed while Renee Zellweger, Brad Pitt, and Laura Dern took expected prizes pushing towards their potential Oscar wins. Joaquin Phoenix helped his cause except for his rambling speech.
The highlights of the night were Kate McKinnon’s introduction of Ellen DeGeneres, Tom Hanks’ acceptance speech, and Olivia Colman’s infectious glee.
