The big news here is that Joseph Kosinski manages to make it in, but his film is the classic popular choice that might not carry over to the Oscars. The rest were expected nominees with Sarah Polley, James Cameron, Park Chan-wook, Baz Luhrmann, S.S. Rajamouli, and Gina Prince-Bythewood taking hits. Could we see an all male slate at the Oscars? It’s certainly possible as each of these directors seem like solid bets for Oscar consideration and Polley and Prince-Bythewood don’t have the clout to make inroads with the Academy’s still heavily male-centric directors branch. We shall see.
