The Golden Globes may have shocked observers by creating one of its highest quality nomination slates in history, but they proved to be the glorified star-lovers they always have been. Leonardo DiCaprio, Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams. All are big names around the globe and whether they deserved their awards or not (most of them did), the Globes clearly decided to keep their traditional esoteric and unpredictable voting intact.

All Is Lost was one of the myriad bizarre selections the Golden Globes have made in Original Score while their love of U2 is not only unending, but never jives with the Academy. 12 Years a Slave was the year’s best drama picture, but apparently wasn’t well liked enough to win any other award (no Chiwetel Ejiofor, Lupita Nyong’o, Steve McQueen or Original Score). American Hustle won three awards, but not Best Director, which went to Alfonso Cuaron. The Globes truly spread the love around, which isn’t usually their modus operandi. It makes an already unpredictable Oscar season even less predictable, although two juggernauts did prevail (Cate Blanchett and Jared Leto).
