Even against a technical juggernaut like Dune, which scored well with Seattle critics, The Power of the Dog still managed to dominate with one more nomination than Denis Villeneuve’s film. The Green Knight and Titane also did well with these nominations, but what’s most notable is that Belfast, without star Jude Hill, would have earned no nominations. The same can be said for Aunjanue Ellis’ appearance as the sole mention for King Richard, two films that were thought to be major Oscar contenders, but which have struggled in recent weeks.
