With Sound Editing now a part of the Sound award, we look to these for signs of weakness rather than a definitive precursor since the Sound Mixing category is the more familiar component of the new category. Of the Sound shortlisted films, it’s rather surprising that three of the four top nominees are there, but Nightmare Alley, which picked up three nominations from this group, didn’t make the cut with the Academy. Second-most nominee No Time to Die did. Of the remaining six films on the Academy’s list, all six are nominees here, so we don’t get a big clue into what the Academy might pick, but the three films with three citations are good bets.
