After directing, acting, and writing, the most important precursor for a Best Picture contender to have is an editing citation and there’s no organization more in tune with that than the American Cinema Editors. Of the major Best Picture Oscar contenders, the most notably absent here are The Father, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, One Night in Miami, Da 5 Bloods, and News of the World.
