Showcasing that Marriage Story has utterly collapsed since its release, the film failed to win Best Picture, losing to The Farewell, one of the cusp films in the Best Picture race at the Oscars. Elsewhere, it was mostly Oscar nominees taking the awards with only one other huge surprise in the supporting female category where Farewell actress Zhao Shuzhen also beat out Jennifer Lopez.
