Precursor: 32nd Producers Guild Nominations (2020)

With no box office smash to take up the not-gonna-make-it slot with the PGA, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm fills that role, which might suggest it was popular enough. The rest of the films have been regular mentions in this year’s Oscar race. That’s especially true of Bes5t Animated Feature where this is the exact slate I expect to carry over to the Oscars. This, though, is a major hit for the Best Picture chances of Da 5 Bloods, The Father, and News of the World, all thought to be in the hunt. It also boosts the chances of Sound of Metal, which I would have thought too minor for the Academy to select. We’ll see how accurate this group is after a few more guilds announce.
