Before most of the year-end releases have been seen, the Gotham Awards announce nominations and even awards, suggesting that the Oscar race has begun, but being too early to be reflective. The Favourite was the only of their Best Picture nominees last year to make the final list. Films like The Farewell, Marriage Story, and Waves are generating pretty serious buzz while Uncut Gems is getting some and Hustlers is getting minimal attention. Some of the acting nominees are lightly in the conversation, but won’t probably make it.
