Announcing their nominations yesterday, the San Diego Film Critics have give three films double-digit nomination tallies. One was expected, La La Land, the other two were not. Hell or High Water and Nocturnal Animals haven’t played nearly as well this season as they could have, with Hell or High Water doing markedly better than Nocturnal Animals. These numbers might help give the films a higher profile this awards season. Finding Dory finds its first shut-out in Animate Film while Long Way North and April and the Extraordinary World gain some traction. The seven-nomination ballot for Best Actor is telling about how tight that race is. The heretofore little seen selections this group made include: Chris Pine, Sonia Braga, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Judy Davis. This is the first time Elle has really blanked with awards groups with Isabelle Huppert and the film nowhere to be seen.
