As the precursor awards continue unabated until Oscar night, I’m going to be providing a weekly update highlighting the films that have won and lost momentum through the precursor awards (and in some cases other outside influences).
And it’s now time for all of the precursor awards from critics to slowly fade and the guilds to begin in earnest. While the Producers Guild of America is the first of the latest batch and the second after the Screen Actors Guild, is the tip of the iceberg.
But, before we get into this week’s winners and losers, let’s take a look at what’s coming up this week:

Big Winners
Green Book won three awards at the Golden Globe awards, which, regardless of how it did the rest of the week at the precursors, was basically a slam dunk to launch it’s Oscar campaign.
Roma picked up two Golden Globes along with several other precursors this week, which keeps it in contention.
Bohemian Rhapsody was sure to win Best Actor at the Golden Globes, but combine that with the Best Picture win and the Best Picture nomination from the Producers Guild of America, the film becomes a likely contender for Best Picture at the Oscars, but only for a nomination, a win would be astronomically unlikely.
Big Losers
A Star Is Born is just the kind of film the Hollywood Foreign Press Association loves to award and yet it came away with only an Original Song citation from the Golden Globes. That’s a major hit, especially since star Lady Gaga also lost as did the film in Best Drama Picture.
If Beale Street Could Talk lost out on a slot on the Best Picture slate from the Producers Guild, which significantly hurts its chances with the Oscars, but its near-shut-out at the Golden Globes is just as damaging. Regina King may be on her way to an Oscar, but the film will need a miracle to become a contender beyond that.
Vice also almost blanked at the Golden Globes with Christian Bale pulling off a victory over Viggo Mortensen who could have ridden the Green Book wave.
