Shang-Chi‘s reign at the top of the box office is likely to come to an end this weekend with four new wide releases and two of them have a shot at the top spot. The Many Saints of Newark and The Jesus Music are not going to be topping the chart. Meanwhile, The Addams Family 2 and Venom: Let There Be Carnage both have strong potential to rise to the top. The first animated Addams Family opened in 2019 to $97 million topping out at $200 million. The first Venom movie opened in 2018 with only an $80 million weekend, but a slightly higher tally of $213 million. That means the fight for supremacy will be tough and either one could really make it out on top, but I’ll give the slight edge to Venom: Let There Be Carnage, but wouldn’t be surprised if it went the other way.

Wesley Lovell (WL): I didn’t see the first one, though I’m not opposed to seeing either one.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks cute, but enough already with the Addams family!
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The first one was just okay, and I imagine this one will be too.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Never watched The Sopranos, so I have no interest in a prequel.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): For those who can’t get enough of the Sopranos.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Having never seen The Sopranos nor being that thrilled with mafia movies in general, this does not appeal much.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The first film was great fun and the second one looks ok.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): The Marvel universe expands yet again – might be worth catching up with at some point.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks like a lesser Marvel film with some humor and too much gore.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks overdone, but also might be modestly enjoyable.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a fun minor film.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Another British comedy, probably cute but forgettable, but right now that may be enough.
