Most of the competition has cleared the way for the massive drop of Disney’s latest animated-to-live-action adaptation, which should easily top the weekend box office over the second week of Fast X.

About My Father
Wesley Lovell: Robert De Niro’s comedy films haven’t been great and this looks a bit too predictable for me.
Peter J. Patrick: Low-rent comedy is not my thing, but this one could surprise me if it’s not too silly.
Thomas La Tourrette: It looks like a very lame comedy.
Kandahar
Wesley Lovell: Gerard Butler hasn’t made an interesting film since Coriolanus, so this one doesn’t entice. Especially when it looks too much like Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant.
Peter J. Patrick: An important subject, but not one that seems terribly well executed here.
Thomas La Tourrette: Aside from the fact that the director tried not to use CGI for the film, it just does not look that interesting.
The Little Mermaid
Wesley Lovell: I will absolutely see this. Not because I’m a fan of the original, but I want to embrace Disney’s effort to make films for everyone.
Peter J. Patrick: Live-action remake of animated Disney musical looks okay at best.
Thomas La Tourrette: I will see it under duress as the animated film was one of my favorites and I am guessing that the live-action version will not hold a candle to it. Sadly it sounds like Halle Bailey’s performance is the only reason to see the film.
The Machine
Wesley Lovell: It could be interesting in a cheesy kind of way, but it seems like it’s leaning into the Edgar Wright Cornetto trilogy aesthetic too hard.
Peter J. Patrick: Tedious looking comedy.
Thomas La Tourrette: Probably not, though Mark Hamill looks to be having a blast. There was a bit of humor in the trailer, but not enough to really sell me on the film. I may wait to see what others think of it.
You Hurt My Feelings
Wesley Lovell: Early reviews are solid, but the trailer doesn’t quite excite me.
Peter J. Patrick: Looks like a well-made sophisticated comedy.
Thomas La Tourrette: It does not look that funny, but the critics love it. I’m just not sure I want to sit through 90 minutes of it.

The Limited Slate
Wesley Lovell: I’m modestly interested just because of how corny and bloody this looks, but I’d have to see the original first and I’m not so enthused about that.
Peter J. Patrick: Nothing to see here, folks. Better luck next week.
Thomas La Tourrette: If more critics like it, I might see it, but it looks too violent for me.
