Looking at the Weekend: May 13-15, 2022

Not terribly long ago, studios released one major box office contender a week and thanks to the pandemic that seems to be what we’re back to as we’ve seldom had more than one release a week. This week’s effort is Firestarter, a re-adaptation of an early Stephen King novel. I doubt that it can overcome the second week of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but it should do well enough to come in second.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer doesn’t look promising and the re-adaptations of Stephen King novels seems pointless. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Unnecessary remake of the 1984 Drew Barrymore film that had more star power. Thomas LaTourette (TL): It might be a decent Stephen King adaptation, but I was feeling tired of it by the end of the trailer.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): Quirky, sure, but it doesn’t quite have anything amazing looking about it. Peter J. Patrick (PP): 2021 film festival hit is highly atmospheric but doesn’t seem strong enough to score at the box-office. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does not do enough to truly generate interest in these kids and what they are capable of, so it just does not look like that interesting a movie.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): Could be worth it just for Christina Ricci, but it also looks like a paint-by-numbers haunted house drama. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Character driven horror film looks better than the run-of-the-mill garbage this genre is usually stuck with. Thomas LaTourette (TL): Christina Ricci is a fine actress, but even she could not hold the trailer together which felt like any haunted house thriller.
