Snow White‘s ability to stick at the top spot is dependent on how well the three competitors do against it. If they split the available audience, Snow White can easily remain #1. Of the three film, all of them have the opportunity to be the number one new release. Death of the Unicorn has horror and comedy fans in its sights and with this cast, it could pull in a lot of interested people. Working Man has a dedicated base of men who won’t attend either of the two new releases but Jason Statham has never proven to be a box office draw, so it probably has the least chance. That leaves The Woman in the Yard, which will appeal to horror fans and Black audiences. With horror fans split between Unicorn and this film, I could see both doing well but failing to overcome Snow White‘s second weekend.

WIDE RELEASES

DEATH OF A UNICORN

THE WOMAN IN THE YARD

A WORKING MAN

Death of a Unicorn

Wesley Lovell: Jenna Ortega and Paul Rudd are reasons to see this movie but somewhat chintzy effects from the trailer making it difficult to get excited.

Peter J. Patrick: Unusual fantasy film may have merit.

Thomas La Tourrette: It might be fun and a little edgy, or it might miss the boat. Not sure which it will be.

The Woman in the Yard

Wesley Lovell: I’m all for good horror films but other than its woman-in-the-yard gimmick, it looks fairly generic.

Peter J. Patrick: A fresh take on weekly horror releases can’t be all bad.

Thomas La Tourrette: It does not look like anything new in the horror genre.

A Working Man

Wesley Lovell: Jason Statham is not one of my favorite actors and this looks like yet another mediocre entry in his career-long attempt to be thought cool.

Peter J. Patrick: Routine thriller doesn’t look very good.

Thomas La Tourrette: A tired retread of a one man vendetta. I will pass.

LIMITED RELEASES

THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND

THE FRIEND

GRAND TOUR

HOLY COW

JULIE KEEPS QUIET

THE PENGUIN LESSONS

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: A couple of potentially worthy festival titles but also a lot of mediocre-looking festival titles.

Peter J. Patrick: Mostly maybes but The Penguin Lessons looks like a small gem.

Thomas La Tourrette: None of these look terrible, but none scream “See me” either. A couple are probably going to be worth seeing, at least according to early reviews, but I doubt any  of them will prove box office hits.
