Three new wide releases competing against two solid holdovers might not result in a new number one but could as both The American Society of Magical Negroes and Arthur the King could end up on top. I’d give the edge to Arthur the King.

WIDE RELEASES

THE AMERICAN SOCIETY OF MAGICAL NEGROES

ARTHUR THE KING

ONE LIFE

The American Society of Magical Negroes

Wesley Lovell: It has some potential but early word wasn’t positive, so who knows?

Peter J. Patrick: Looks like a fun satire although probably with less bite than American Fiction.

Thomas La Tourrette: Early reviews are not kind and while the trailer shows some potential, I do not think it will be that good a movie.

Arthur the King

Wesley Lovell: I like dogs but I don’t like “inspirational” movies about dogs.

Peter J. Patrick: Adventure film combining both sports and a lovable dog looks exhausting.

Thomas La Tourrette: Typical feel good story about a dog helping people, but it just looks trite.

One Life

Wesley Lovell: I’m just not interested.

Peter J. Patrick: Inspirational true story of a man who rescued children from certain peril in 1938-39 Czechoslovakia is relevant and timely to today’s situations in Ukraine and Gaza.

Thomas La Tourrette: It looks nice and uplifting, but also like other films we have seen.

LIMITED RELEASES

THE ANIMAL KINGDOM

DOGMAN

FRENCH GIRL

KNOX GOES AWAY

PREY

SNACK SHACK

UPROAR

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: None of these seem exciting to me.

Peter J. Patrick: The Animal Kingdom, DogMan, and Knox Goes Away look interesting, the others not so much.

Thomas La Tourrette: The French sci-fi film The Animal Kingdom looks intriguing. Uproar is a possibility, but most of the rest look pretty dismal.
