Looking at the Weekend: Jul. 26-28, 2019

Although The Lion King will be taking its second weekend at the top of the box office, Quentin Tarantino’s latest film will be making a play for the top spot. Yet, it will be impossible for him to take the top spot from Disney’s “live-action” adaptation. Tarantino has never pulled in more than $38 million for the opening weekend of one of his films. The Lion King would have to have an uncharacteristic precipitous drop to make less than that in its second weekend. Still, Tarainto’s film is the only wide release and a second-place finish is all but certain.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): I might have missed The Hateful Eight, but Tarantino’s films are always worth catching. Peter J. Patrick (PP): The year’s first release with strong Oscar buzz should also be a major box-office hit. Thomas LaTourette (TL): I do not find the trailer that exciting, but I am looking forward to the film and it should be a major Oscar player.

	Wesley Lovell (WL): Remembering what it’s about is a challenge, which makes it hard to say whether it will be worth watching or not. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Psychological drama looks a bit tedious. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The film wants to be a deep psychological thriller, but the trailer doesn’t really get that across.
