When there’s a guaranteed blockbuster on release, there’s generally no competition. When there’s no defined box office leader, there are usually several release. There are three coming out wide this weekend, Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, Paws of Fury: The Legend of Hank, and Where the Crawdads Sing. Mrs. Harris doesn’t seem like the kind of film that can be the weekend’s top new release, which puts the competition between the other two releases. Paws of Fury looks incredibly bad, but animated films are often box office strongmen even when bad, so it could top out. I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest Where the Crawdads Sing could surprise. That said, I’m only about 39% confident of that, so take it with a grain of salt. Thor: Love and Thunder will undoubtedly have a second week at the top.

Our Highest Rated Films: Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks like it might be endearing, but will probably be but a trifle.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Lesley Manville filling the shoes of Gracie Fields and Angela Lansbury who played the old maid housekeeper in well-regarded TV versions should be a joy to behold.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The book was fun though this seems more serious than it. Lesley Manville does bring a lot of charm to the role and should be a bright spot even if the movies is not as good as her.

Wesley Lovell (WL): This looks execrable. I can’t believe something like this not only got made, but did so with top-tier talent.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Strictly for kids.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): This looks like an incredibly cheap knock-off of Kung Fu Panda.

Peter J. Patrick (PP): Award-winning Lebanese family drama looks compelling.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The description of the film gets across more of what is happening than the trailer does, which is not a good sign.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Winona Ryder needs more good roles an this one looks like it might be beneath her, but might also be rewarding.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Twisty thriller from the co-creator of TV’s Homecoming looks intriguing.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer does not know what type of movie it is for and makes for a not very convincing stab at a thriller.

Wesley Lovell (WL): A good cast, but the film doesn’t set itself apart from all the other thrillers we’ve seen lately.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Dullish looking thriller despite its all-star cast.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Lots of action, not much plat, and it looks like a waste of a good cast.

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer doesn’t put much faith in its narrative, explaining all of it way, but then never finding a way to get the audience involved.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Interesting looking melodrama about sudden life changes.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): There might be an interesting story there, but the trailer does little to make you care about the situation or characters.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Another forgettable Bruce Willis actioner.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Another piece of garbage exploiting the unfortunate Bruce Willis.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am sorry for Bruce Willis’s health diagnosis, but this looks like just another typical action film from him with little to recommend it.
