When two potent franchise go head-to-head, it’s hard to know who will win. That said, the animated Lord of the Rings probably won’t outpace Kraven the Hunter.

Kraven the Hunter
Wesley Lovell: It looks pedestrian with little to sell it beyond Aaron Taylor-Johnson and that’s just not enough.
Peter J. Patrick: Dull looking superhero movie that may be a hit but it’s not for me.ย
Thomas La Tourrette: I know nothing about this Marvel character, and nothing about the trailer makes me want to know more.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim
Wesley Lovell: I’m not an anime fan but I do like The Lord of the Rings, so that interest may top anything else.
Peter J. Patrick: Not my cup of tea.
Thomas La Tourrette: The trailer is not terribly exciting and the animations just seems off for what they are doing.

The Limited Slate
Wesley Lovell: A solid selection of limited releases this week with all of them potential worthy of viewing though Nickel Boys has the best chances.
Peter J. Patrick: Nickel Boys and September 5 seem interesting, but The Last Showgirl looks like a made for TV movie at best.
Thomas La Tourrette: All three sound promising to some extent, though only September 5 feels like a must see.
