While Jungle Cruise topped the weekend, its $34 million tally wasn’t great and that means this coming weekend is rife for a new film to be crowned. That film will be The Suicide Squad. As Black Widow proved, superhero films are still clamored for at the box office and we’ll see if Margot Robbie and company can outpace Scarlett Johansson’s film.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Here’s hoping that it’s better than its predecessor.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): sequel with the same name except for the article “the”, huh? The trailer was annoying, I suspect the film will be as well.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer seems more dumb than anything, but the early reviews are very good which makes me think it will be worth seeing.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Might be worth seeing for the actors.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): It impressed them at Cannes but seems too bizarre to stir up strong year-end critics and Oscar attention.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I have a feeling that this will be a love it or hate it film, but I am all for any new musical.

Wesley Lovell (WL): Not as engaged by the trailer as I should have been.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Another festival hit that seems too out there to impress year-end awards bodies.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am not certain what to make of the trailer which is both dense and fascinating. It does interest me in the movie, as do the reviews.

Wesley Lovell (WL): A forgettable premise and trailer.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Last year’s International Oscar submission from Poland might have a chance at a screenplay nod this time around.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The reviews make it sound intriguing and bizarre, but the trailer does not hook one the way it should.

Wesley Lovell (WL): Not a film that seems that interesting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Showcase for German actor Udo Keir with Linda Evans as a corpse looks genuinely funny.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It could be fun, it could be tedious, but it looks like it tries for the humorous.
