With two new wide releases, neither with the best prospects at huge openings, Three Thousand Years of Longing seems the better bet to win out over The Invitation and that could also mean the top spot at the weekend box office.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): There’s an interesting premise hidden behind the trailer’s more predictable elements that could make this good.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Seems to be a well-made vampire movie, but it doesn’t quite pique my interest.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It looks a step above most horror films, but still not sure if I want to see it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): George Miller’s films always have a certain approachability to them even when they aren’t the most straight forward.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Modern genie in a bottle fantasy looks visually stunning but dramatically all over the place.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): With two strong leads and some stunning visuals, this could be fascinating, though it also looks pretty jumbled.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The premise doesn’t make a lot of sense and while Jena Malone might be worth the price of admission, the film just doesn’t have any interest.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Odd tale of an adult woman who puts herself up for adoption is supposedly based on fact so there’s that but not much else.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): There wasn’t a lot in the trailer to recommend this film about a woman who doesn’t like to commit.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): I have entirely forgotten the film since I saw the trailer, which tells you what my level of interest in it is.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like a well-made modern bank robbery in progress thriller.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): A decent thriller with a strong lead in John Boyega, but it will be hard pressed to make itself into something truly new and different.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A dull-witted trailer doesn’t create the verve necessary to pique my interest.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Owen Kline’s directorial debut looks like a thoroughly enjoyable coming of age comedy.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The reviews like it, but it does not seem funny nor anyone in it even likable.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): A dime-a-dozen shark attack film that looks so generic I couldn’t even tell you who the hapless white people are who are going to get eaten.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Dullish looking shark in the water thriller.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It boasts a prettier cast than Jaws, and that may be the only thing going for it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer was a bit dull, but there’s a hint of a fascinating mystery at its core, which could be engaging.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Neil LaBute’s films have long been out of fashion, but Jack Nicholson’s lookalike son could bring this one some attention.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It seems better than other thrillers of its ilk, but not sure how much better it will prove.
