Two films have the potential for topping the week’s box office. 47 Meters Down: Unchaged follows on the heels of a cult-loved predecessor, which could help it improve on that film’s paltry $11 million opening. The more likely winner is The Angry Birds Movie 2, which has a far more successful predecessor to build off of. That Hobbs & Shaw had a commonplace, but notable slide in its second weekend, it’s unlikely to take the top for a third week in a row.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Although the original film held no appeal for me, this new movie looks a lot more enjoyable than its predecessor.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): I have zero interest in this thing.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Not my type of movie, and nothing about the trailer made me any more interested in it.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Neither the original, nor this sequel, have held any interest for me.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Animated film seems cleverly done if not especially original.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer looks incredibly cheesy, and early reviews are merely okay, so it might be fine for kids, but probably no one else.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Early reviews are strong enough to suggest it might be good, but I have my doubts.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Feel good comedy set to Springsteen’s music in Thatcher’s England looks amiable.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer is cute, but not much more, but early reviews found it charming, so it might be worth seeing.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks like an incredibly risque comedy and could be quite fun.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): This R-rated comedy about sixth graders seems to stretch credulity.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): I have found the trailers painful rather than funny, so I will be passing on this movie.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): Cate Blanchett is always a treat, but this looks a bit too saccharine.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Linklater’s latest looks strained with an overly cute performance from Cate Blanchett.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It was an enjoyable book, but a lot of the fun of that was the mystery of where Bernadette had gone. Since that is told in the trailer, I am not certain what the film has going for it except perhaps a great performance by Cate Blanchett.

Wesley Lovell (WL): This Korean rendition of a possession film doesn’t look particularly engaging.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Korean horror film looks more interesting than most of its contemporary Hollywood counterparts.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): Combining The Exorcist with a kick-boxing movie may be new, but it still does not look like my cup of tea.

Wesley Lovell (WL): This taiwanese cop thriller doesn’t look particularly exciting.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): Taiwanese thriller looks like decent actioner.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): If nonstop action is your thing, this could be your movie, but the lack of a coherent plot leaves me uninterested.

Individual Commentary:

Wesley Lovell (WL): This Nazi Germany-set romance looks a bit too tacky.
Peter J. Patrick (PP): The trailer for this romantic thriller looks awfully creepy.
Thomas LaTourette (TL): It might be okay, but the lackluster trailer does little to sell this as a romance or a drama.
